KING TO MEET MOTHER GROWING GERMAN DEMANDS LONDON, Sept. 13 King Michael of Rumania is to leave Bucharest to-day '• for the Yugoslav frontier to meet his mother, Queen Helen, who is returning to her country after 10 years exile. The question of German minorities in Rumania is reported to be coming to a head. A manifesto is stated to have been issued, in which there are demands for the recognition of Germans as an autonomous body, for exemption of Germans from Rumanian military service, and for the use of the German language. RED SEA ROUTE USE BY TROOPSHIPS LONDON. Sept. 13 The safety of the Red Sea route, in spite of Italy's entry into the war, is illustrated in a message from Simla. It states that the route to Egypt has not been affected, and points out that two large fleets of troopships from India had negotiated it without the loss of a single life. Seventy-one ships in the past year, the message continues, have sailed through the Red Sea without" loss. PAY FOR GERMANS FRENCH PROVIDE FUNDS LONDON, Sept. 12 It is reported from Vichy that the Bank of France has agreed to place 50,000,000,000 francs at the disposal of the Government to pay for the upkeep of German troops in occupied France.
