AUCKLAND DIOCESE ;> r ■" FOUR APPOINTMENTS MADE MISSIONARY FROM CHINA Four clerical appointments in the Anglican Diocese of Auckland were announced yesterday by Bishop Simkin. To fill the vacancy caused by the death of the Rev. ,R. Hill Johnson, the Rev. Hopkins Sinclair, at present vicar of Papakura, has been appointed vicar of Takapuna. Mr. Sinclair was ordained deacon in 1929 and priest in 1930 by the Bishop of Waikato. For three years he was assistant curate at Okato, Taranaki, and his subsequent appointments were priest-in-charge at Ngaruawahia. 1932, vicar of Paparoa, 1933, and vicar of Papakura, 1938. . Tho Rev. M. ITarcourt Wybert, vicar of Waimate North, has been appointed to Birkenhead, in succession to the Rev. P. C. Davis, who lately retired. Mr. Wybert, entered the ministry at Christchurch five year ago. He was assistant curate at Merivale, Christchurch, before going to Waimate North in 1938. Recently he published a book, " The Day Before Yesterday," dealing with the missionary period in North Auckland. The vacancy at Waimate North will be filled by the Rev. R. D. Lord, 8.A., formerly for 22 years a missionary in China under the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. Mr. Lord, who arrived in Auckland with his family last January, was educated at Oxford and Lichfield Theological College and took orders in the Diocese of Liverpool in 1911. After, holding cures at Eccleston and Wigan, he went to China in 1918 and was stationed at three different places, the last being Yenchow, in the Diocese of Shantung. The Rev. J. H. Cable, vicar of Hokianga, ha? been appointed priest-in-charge at Avondale. Since his ordination in 1915, Mr. Cable has served in the Auckland diocese at Mount Albert, Grey Lynn, Kingsland and Hokianga.
