MEN WHO VOLUNTEERED
Sir, —I was surprised on reading the list of exemptions announced recently in connection with the forthcoming conscription ballot that no exemption was included for men who have volunteered and have been classed as permanently medically unfit and turned down for other reasons. It is difficult to understand why single men who have volunteered and been turned down should be conscripted. All it seems to mean is that the Medical Board's decision that a iman was not up to their standard carries no weight. The fact that the volunteer has receiA'cd a badge and a certificate becomes obsolete. It certainly does not look the correct or practical way of dealing with the situation. Fair Plat.
