SALES OF HOUSES
BREACHES OF THE ACT Three charges involving breaches of the Land Agents' Act were admitted in the Magistrate's Court yesterday by Edwin Sayes (Mr. Tong). The magistrate was Mr. F. H. Levien. Senior-Sergeant Joyce said defendant commenced a business known as Reliance Business Sales on March 31. No licence was necessary for the sale of businesses, but later defendant sold two houses and another property. Counsel submitted it was only because of dilatoriness on defendant's part that he did not apply for a licence immediately. He had since been granted one. "The important point," said the magistrate, "is that defendant accepted deposits without being covered by the bond which a licence would have provided." Defendant was fined £2O on one charge, and the other two charges were withdrawn.
