OBITUARY

MR. J. W. BRAME The death has occurred of Mr. John" Wagstaff Brame, of Crammer Road, Grey Lynn, aged 83. Mr. Brame, who was born in Birmingham, came to New Zealand with his father in 1863, his uncle, Mr. • W. L. Brame, being one of the founders of the Albertland settlement. Mr. Brame entered the service of the Post and Tolegraph Department, from which ho retired after 40 years' service. He was an authority on New Zealand ferns, of which he had a fine collection. While searching for specimens he explored much of tho country in the vicinity of Mount Egmont, and Brame's on the Opunake side of the mountain, are named after him. He is survived by two sons and four daughters, one son having lost his life in the last war.

MR. F. O. IRVINE The death has occurred of Mr. Francis Oates Irvine, of Howiek, aged S6. Mr. Irvine, who was born in Leeds, England, came to New Zealand 80 years ago. the family settling at Nelson. Mr. Irvine came to Auckland as a young man, and later established an engineering works in Manukau Road. MRS. MARY E. CARPENTER The death has occurred of Mrs. Mary Ellen Carpenter, widow of the late Mr. J. H. M. Carpenter, formerly a well-known Auckland business man, aged 85. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Auckland in 1800, being <a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Ewen, who had just arrived from England. Mrs. Carpenter was educated in Auckland and was married at Bishopscourt by Bishop Cowie in 1880. For a few years Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter lived at To Kowhai, near Ngarnawahia, but later they returned to Auckland. For over o0 years Mrs. Carpenter regularly attended services at St. Mark's Church, Remuera. She was a life-member of the Victoria League in Auckland. Her husband died in 1909. She is survived by t,hrec sons.

DR. 0. S. DAVIS [from OUll OWN* cokhkspondknt] HAMILTON, Thursday Tho death has occurred at bis residence, Hammond Street, Hamilton, of Dr. C. S. Davis, aged 7-1, who was a well-known figure on the East Coast. After practising in England for some time, Dr. Davis came to tho Dominion in 1901. He set up practice at Waipiro Bay, East Coast, whore he lived for about 3G years. When he retired about threo years ago ho came to Hamilton. Ho is survived by bis wife. MRS. T. M. REWETI [rno.M oi:r own coiiiikspoxdent] TA UH ANO ATim rsday Tim death has occurred at Hairini of Mrs. Titihuia Mokohiti Rowoti, a well-known Maori. Mrs. Rowoti was descended from a northern tribe, and married into the line of the late Pa ratine Koikoi, paramount, in the Ngaite Marawaho and a chief of the Xgati Rntiginui. Many Maoris are attending the tangi. including representatives of the Arawas from Rotorua.
