LIQUOR ON MOTOR-BUS

FIRST CHARGE UNDER ACT COURT FINES PASSENGER A chargo of taking intoxicating liquor while a passenger on a motorbus, contrary to the Transport Law Amendment; Act, 1939, was preferred against Walter Dale in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., Mr. C. D. Treadgold prosecuted for the Transport Department. Defendant did not appear. As far as he knew, said Mr. Treadgold, this was the first charge of this kind brought under the Act. Defendant was a passenger on the Rotorua-Auck-land bus on July 25. He had a bottle of whisky, which he persisted in offering to passengers. At various stages of the journey he got out for more drink, annoving the other passengers. Finally, the driver took the bottle from him, after which defendant continued to demand it back. Defendant was fined 30s.
