CHILDREN FROM BRITAIN
The statement made by the Minister of Internal Affairs concerning New Zealand's share in the provision of homes for children evacuated from Britain will be read with deep interest. There is eveiy prospect of an early completion of arrangements for their reception, and Mr. Parry has reported the definite netfs that children are coming. Beyond that assurance, as he has said, it is not possible to give information at the present time ; for reasons readily understood, no details can be made public until the actual arrival of children in- the Dominion. In their own interests there must be patient waiting, by those who have nominated particular children, until they receive word from the Internal Affairs Department. Patience will be more readily exercised as a result of what Mr. Parry has been able to disclose, and his promise that everything needful will be done by the Government to ensure good care of the children until they are handed over to their foster parents adds all that is required in the way of information just now. The party that arrived at Wellington
yesterday had come by private arrangement and were therefore not under the evacuation scheme, but the arrangements made for their welcome will prove a useful introduction for similar greeting of those to arrive under the scheme. It is highly satisfactory that New Zealand is to participate so fully in this enterprise. This country offers in all respects conditions in accord with the purpose, and on both sides of the arrangement there has been a marked eagerness —to extend and to enjoy its hospitality. Here, because of the intensifying air raids in Britain, there is cherished a hopethat before long the awaited intimation of arrival will be made.
