MR. ALFRED MORGAN
A former member of the staff of the New Zealand Herald, Mr. Alfred Morgan, of Tainui Road, Devonport, has died at the age of 76. Born in 1864, Mr. Morgan was married at Bristol on April 2, .188S, and came to New Zealand in 1903, being under contract to the Christchurch Press. Mr. Morgan was keenly interested in lithography, and was apprenticed in 1875 to one of the two printing offices in England which then specialised in the first production of cheap commercial lithographic coloured pictures. Later in London he was associated with the production of pictures for nearly 30 vears. After leaving the Christchurch l'ress, Mr. Morgan joined the lithographic staff of the New Zealand Herald,, where he remained for 12 years, retiring in 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan visited England for nearly four j'ears, and in 1938 they celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. Morgan was a member of the Avondale Road Board for a number of years. He is survived by Mrs. Morgan and one son.
