VICTORIA LEAGUE
IYOUNG CONTINGENT PRESENTATION OF CONCERT PROCEEDS FOR EMPIRE WORK Bright choruses, charming ballets, an original mime and several musical items were included in a concert given by members of the Victoria League Young Contingent last night in the Lewis Eady Hall before a large audience. The proceeds of the concert, which will be repeated to-night, will be used for the league's Empire work. Produced by Miss Ela Hutchison, the concert was notable for its variety and excellent acting, and included ballets trained by Miss Daphne Knight and plays produced by Miss Roseanne Lovell and Miss Mary Pilkington. The opening chorus by 18 of the company was entitled "Good Morning" and was completed by a solo dance by Miss Patricia Tennent. The original mime "Villikins and His Dinah" was produced by Miss Mavis McCulloch with Mrs. Humfrey Gordon as the soloist, while in another musical concerted number the soloist was Mrs. Keith Cutten. Duets were given by Miss Betty Brown and Miss Phyllis Renner, songs by Mrs. Harold Owers and Mr. Geoffrey Laird, pianoforte duets by Mrs'. R. Reed and Miss Lorna Reed, sketches by Mrs. J. Allen and musical monologues by Mr. Gerald Pinnock. An impressive finale was the solo ''There'll Always Be An England," sung by Mr. Geoffrey Laird, with the chorus by the company. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Reed and Miss Reed, the former also providing the incidental music.
