PROVINCIAL SOCCER bowling life memberships , I ____ LADIES* GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP The Canterbury Soccer team, whicli will meet Auckland in an English Trophy challenge match at Blandl'ord Park on September 21, will have a useful trial against Otago next Saturday in the Jones Cup return fixture. Lifo-membership gold badges were presented to Messrs. F. Whitehead, It. G. Speight, R. Patterson and T. C. Harriman at the To Papapa Bowling Club's prize night. The Dawson Cup Memorial honours board, recently presented by Mr. F. Hayes, was unveiled. The Drury club has annexed all three of the Manukau Rugby Sub-Union's trophies, winning the senior knock-out competition for the Stevens Cup and the championship for the Ryan Cup. In the junior division, the club also won the championship for tho Barney Munro Shield. M. Pratt, the noted Otorohanga marksman, won his 20th championship at the recent North Island tournament. He won the pigeon championship, was runner-up in the clay-bird championship, and divided the stake with three others in tho .CSO clay-bird handicap off 10 yards. He also had successes in smaller sweepstake and ginicrack events.. In tho third round of the Mount Denby four-ball competition held recently by tho Whangarei Golf Club, A. G. Sheen and R. J. Crosby and R. Gray and D. Roberts finished all square after 45 holes had been contested. It was decided to play another 18 holes at a later date, when Sheen and Crosby, who ultimately won the final, were successful, 4 and 3. The Auckland provincial ladies' golf championship will be contested at ihe Tltirangi jinks on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Entries will close on Friday. The competitors are usually drawn from all parts of the province, but this year will include at least one from further afield, an entry among those so far received coming from Nolson. Saturday's matches brought to a conclusion in Auckland a very successful hockey tournament, and tho Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association has every reason to be proud of its management. Much favourable comment was passed by tho visitors on the condition and appearance of tho grounds at Melville Park, wnich for several days presented a bright and colourful scene. Play in the match between Technical and North' Shore, which- met In a senior competition gamo under the control of the Auckland Rugby Union at Eden Park on Saturday, was very 'fast and even all through, and the exchanges among the forwards were particularly willing, with the result that players came to blows on occasions. Once the referee, Mr. R. K. Hayhow, stopped the game and spoke to two combatants. Technical desired to avenge its defeat by North Shore in the first round, but, during a great part of tho contest, was prevented from holding tho lead by a singlo point. Technical's chance of gaining victory came a minute before time, when a penalty kick was awarded the sido. Roscnfeldt making no mistake to settle the issue.
