To-day the efficiently organised force of 15 Automobile Associations, unified by affiliation through the North Island and South Island [Motor Unions," stands ready and willing to serve in any capacity for King and country. A year ago the annual conference of the North Island Motor Union was in progress when war was declared. Immediately delegates from the Automobile Associations representing districts throughout New Zealand pledged that the entire Union organisation should be put at the Nation's disposal. Automobile Association service has been fully maintained with customary courtesy and efficiency. The policy of the movement has been enlarged to cope with wartime emergencies, and every effort has been made to prove the worth pf the Associations in the normal life of every community. There can be no doubf?that the extensive organisation offered by the combined Automobile Associations of New Zealand, with their specialised staffs andtransport services, would be of inestimable value in the event of a national emergency. Fleets of cars with voluntary drivers have been arranged for emergency precaution purposes, such as for fire fighting, transport and communications. It is the aim of Associations to be fully prepared to respond to the call whenever it should come. They desire to be ready at a moment's notice to give the service lihey have offered, being mindful always that should the war not create the emergency, an earthquake or some such other calamity might do so. At such a time trained men, familiar with handling large crowds and directing traffic, should ensure smooth operation of any evacuation scheme. ■ Maintain A.A.
