A spectator at the North Shore-Grammar Rusby match 011 Saturday was C. Jessnp, who had a particular interest in the fixture, having in the past played for both teams. In spite of his slight built, Jessup vraj * cood five-eighths, but a proneness to injury caused his retirement last year. It is not often that are uta playing side by side in representative Rugby matches, but such was the case at Hamil. ton on Saturday, when Waikato met Auckland L. (r. C. Reece and R. Everest 'werj selected as five-eiuhths for Waikato bat, owinf? to illness, Reece could not play. Hii place was taken by J. Everest, who recently returned to Hamilton after an absena of some weeks. The two brothers _ formed uuitg a good combination. A fault ni: tbeir plijr was that they stood too close together and this retarded the back-line mdvements. B. C. Blunt, former Canterbury, Otago anj New Zealand cricketer, who later became attached to Sir Julien Cahn's team in England, played for Notts recently against; a Servicer eleven at Trent Bridze. Notts batted fint and made *2Bl lor nine wickets, declared (Blunt 45. J. Watkin 40, E. A. Meads 38, K F Skinner 30). The Services' teca n, plied with 205 for live wickets (Servant J, Hardstaff 103. rA. D. Gibson 50). The annual toiirnnment of the Neir.ZM. land polf veterans will be held on the Artkikapakapa course, Rotorna. as usual this year. Plav will commence, on August 26, and amelude on August 30. Already approximatfl/ 50.entries have been received, and the tourtume'nt promises to be once again-one of the year's most popular polling fixtures. It if ik>« well established as the occasion for reunions between veteran golfers from all parts of the Dominion. In previons years the minimnm a"o for entrants has been 55 years, hot (hers is a possibility that this may be reconsidered this year. In past years the veterans' tonrne; has been preceded by the annual open tournament of the "Rotorua Golf Club, but. this will not be held this year.
