It is unnecessary to labour the point for we see on every side the evils of intemperance. One wonders, therefore, where this retrograde -proposal for wot canteens in territorial camps originated. The young men entering camp hnve not yet become used to tlii) habit, so the demand for canteens did not come' from them. To our young men will be entrusted the lives of their comrades and the honour of theii'j'ountry. Will those canteens assist to increase their efficiency, or prepare them' for the ordeal of battle ? it is easy at present for the 'Government' to refrain from establishing these wet canteens. They would not be missed now. Hut if .they were established, and for some cause the authorities wished to close them, the case would he different. They would then he withdrawing an established right, backed possibly by vested interests.
