OBITUARY
REV. R. ADAIR Cabled advice of the death of the Rev. Robin Adair, formerly of Auckland, has been received from Now York. llr. Adair, who was aged 15. was a brother of .Mr. (■'. \Y. Adair, director of bovs' work at tlio Young Moil's Christian Association in Auckland. H»» left for New York about three years ago to take a university post as lecturer in philosophy. Mr. Adair was formerly well known in Dunedin as a leader in Y.M.C.A. work, and was later called to the Soutlibridge charge, in Canterbury. In ISK32 ho was agent of the youth work of the Presbyterian Church, and later travelling secretary of the Presbyterian Young Men's Bible Class Union. Mr. Adair is survived by his wife and three children. MR. GEORGE POWELL [FROM OUR OWN CORRKSPONDKN-T] HAMILTON, Monday The death occurred at Taupiri yesterday of Mr. George Powell, aged 8(5. He came from England Go years ago and soon afterward commenced fanning nt Gordonton. He later purchased a 1000-aere block at Taupiri and farmed it until his retirement. Mr. Powell built the first.butter factory ih tlio Waikaito, the building being elected under the supervision ot the late Mr. Henry Reynolds at Pukokura 'in 1883. He married Miss Eliza Carter at Bombay and tlioy celebrated the golden anniversary of their wedding a few years ago. Mr. Powell was closely associated with the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association and was a- show steward and stock judge. Ho is survived by five sons and ono daughter. There aro 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, MRS. JAMES HENDRY The death has "Occurred, in Auckland of Mrs. .James Hendry, of Pukeljana Avenue, Epsom, at tlio age of 74. Mrs. Hendry was a daughter of the late Mr. William Pitcaithly, of Lyttelton, and had a brilliant scholastic career, being among the first women 'graduates of Canterbury College. She pursued her studies at the university with the aid of numerous scholarships and ultimately took her M.A. degree with honours, and also part of her LL.B. In 1888. at 'the age of 22, she was appointed lady principal of the Southland Girls' College, holding this position until her marriage with Mr. James Hendry in 1892, Mr. Hendry was for many years chief inspector of schools for the Southi land district.
