GRADING OF BUTTER
DISSATISFACTION EXPRESSED TIGHTENING OF SYSTEM [from oun own louhespondent] MORKIXSVILLE, Monday Dissatisfaction with the Government's system of grading butter was expressed by Mr. F. C. Kennedy at the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Cooperative Dairy Company, Limited, today. Mr. Kennedy pointed out that in T92S-29 the company's butter used to be given a grade of frolYi 93 to 95 points, and practically all of it was superfine. Since then the methods of handling the cream and of manufacturing the butter had vastly improved, and yet for the past season only 58.50 pur cent of the company's output was graded finest quality. It was the worst grading the company had experienced. Mr. Kennedy said the company had contributed several hundred pounds annually to the cost of maintaining the inspection service. He had seen the inspector only once, and he wondered how the expense was justified. He doscribed the tightening up of the grading as a move to keep down the guaranteed price. He was very dissatisfied with the work of the Dairy Division, and considered the company's payments to the New Zealand Dairy Board and to the shed inspection service should be cut out.
