CLUB ACTIVITIES

Women's Progress Club. —A programme of New Zealanders works was presented at a Centennial afternoon held by the club. Mrs. C. E. Dickens presided. The Temple trio played two numbers composed by Mr. J. Ewart, of Auckland, and the rest of the programme comprised songs, pianoforte solos, recitations and brief addresses. Classic Club.—The seventh meeting of the season was presided over by Dr. S. K. Phillips. Songs were given by Miss Phyllis Littler, Miss Joy Douglas, Miss Doran Douglas and Mrs. John Manning, and pianoforte solos by Miss Pearl George and Miss Joan Dowding. United Croquet Club.—Members and honorary members entertained their immediate past president, Mrs. M. YV. Powley, at a card afternoon in George Court's tearooms recently. The newlyelected president, Mrs. Mcßride, made a presentation to Mrs. Powley on behalf of the members in appreciation ot her work during 10 years' term of office as president,- ■ . Penwomen's Club. —Members ot the debating circle of the club, led by Mrs. Jeffrev, debated against a team from the Quest Club, led by Mr. Oldfield. The subject was "That psychic mvesigation is harmful." Mr. Martin Smith judged the debate and announced the Quest. Club, who took the negative side, the winners.
