TONGANS TO JOIN ARMY ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND A Tongan native, Vnilima, and a half-Tongan, Santos, who is a British subject, have arrived in Auckland to enlist with the Xew Zealand forces. Special permission for Vailima, who is the first Tongaii to offer his services, to join up in Xew Zealand was granted by Queen Salote. Vailima. who is 20. is of fine physique, and although ' he cannot speak English he can understand it. The two men were brought to Xew Zealand by Captain A. G. Lowe, formerly a lawyer at Helensville, who has been secretary and legal adviser to the Tongan Government for more than two years. Captain Lowe, who is accompanied by Mrs. Lowe and their two daughters, will also enlist with the forces. The intense loyalty of the Tongans to Great Britain was emphasised by Captain Lowe, who said the Queen was particularly loyal.
