FASHIONS IN WOOL

MATERIAL FOR FROCKS NEW COLOURS AND WEAVES FORTHCOMING DRESS PARADE The fact that wool had definitely come into its own and that every designer in London was using wool for afternoon and evening gowns as well as for negligees and sports wear, was pointed out in an interview yesterday by Mrs. Ina Allan who has arrived in Auckland to present "Fashions' in Wool." The presentation, which was one of the highlights or the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition in Wellington, is to bo given in Auckland, as in other parts of the Dominion, for the benefit of the Patriotic Fund. Mrs. Allan said that every woman was attracted by and interested in beautiful clothes, particularly when they were presented in new colour schemes and designs, and in materials which, although made of wool, were soft and sheer as silk, light and washable as cotton, non-creasing and unshrinkable. In addition the materials had none of the harshness or "tickle" usually associated with wool. Gone for all time was the idea that wool had to be heavy and stodgy in anything but tailored s'uits, winter clothes and sports wear, Mrs. Allan added. There were new colours in the standard weaves and new weaves in georgettes, voiles, prints, florals, lames in wool, and wool lace. About 50 garments are worn in the display by the three mannequins, Miss Peggy Jacomb, .Miss Jean Hinton and Miss Joy Allan, who are all New Zealandcrs. -Mrs. Allan acts as commentator.
