OBITUARY

MR. JAMES DfCKISON A former superintendent of the Auckland prison, Mr, James Dickison, of Selwyn ftoad, Epsom, died yesterday, aged 69. As a young man, Mr. Dickison joined the New Zealand Permanent Artillery, aud, like many other members of the corps, he transferred to the prison service. Before coming to Auckland, lie was for a number of years chief warder at the Invercargill Borstal Institution. As superintendent, lie was responsible for organising and supervising the roadmaking camp which was maintained for a considerable period on Rangitoto Island. He retired four and a-half years ago. Mr. Dickison was known in the servico as a capable officer, who took a genuine interest in the welfare of the prisoners under his charge. He was a member of the Carlton Bowling Club and the United Service Lodge of Freemasons. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

MR. HUGH ADAM [BY TELEGRAPH —"VWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Thursday The death lias occurred of Mr. Hugh Adam, aged 83, who was well known in business circles. He was born at Barnhill, Paisley, Scotland, and came to New Zealand as a young man. He was a director of New Zealand Breweries, Limited, and manager of the Dunedin company. He was chairman of directors of the Dominion .Rubber Company and a director of the New Zealand Express Company. His wife died 22 years ago. MRS. A. M. HODGSON [from our own correspondent] ' HAMILTON", Thursday The death has occurred of Mrs. Ada Maria Hodgson, of Tamahere, aged 75. Mrs. Hodgson's home was in Lepperton, Taranaki, and she was the first white child to be born in that district. She was for many years a schoolteacher at Lepperton. She married the late Mr. Thomas Oliver Hodgson, who died in 1922. In 1911 Mrs. Hodgson came to Tamahere, where she had resided ever since. She is survived by six sons.
