RUMANIAN BORDEB HUNGARY TRUCULENTj DEPUTY'S FIERY SPEECH By Telegraph—Press • Association —Copyright (Received July 3, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON. July 3 Rumanian and Hungarian troops are reported to have clashed yesterday on the frontier of Satulmare Province, according to the Bucharest correspondent of the British United Press. Military circles say Hungarian soldiers were killed when they attempted to cross the frontier.
A Hungarian deputy closely connected with the Government made a violent speech in the Hungarian Parliament against Rumania, and urged that Hungary should invade Transylvania to protect Iter nationals. He added that Germany and Italy would support Hungary. There was great excitement, and members shouted: "Bring back Transylvania! Hail, Bulgaria!" and sang the national anthem.
A Bucharest report says that the Rumanian Foreign Minister, Dr. Constants Argetoianu, giving evidence before the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, said: "All our friends and allies advised us to accept the Soviet ultimatum in order not to create a new war in this part of Europe. "Russia in the first and second ultimatums declared that the return of Bessarabia and North Bukovina must ho unconditional, but in spite of the advice of our friends we sent a Note to the Soviet suggesting negotiations for easier conditions. The Russian, reply described the Rumanian Note as evasive and set a time limit for the acceptance of the .demands."
PIONEER CORPS DEFENCE OF BRITAIN LORD MILNE IN COMMAND (Received July 3. P-m.) LONDON, July '2 Field-Marshal Lord Milne has been appointed Colonel-Commandant of the Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps. The Auxiliary. Military Pioneer Corps is being trained to make, man and defend the defences of Great Britain. The force played a creditable part in the recent operations in Flanders and France. Its members formed part of tho ,rearguard which defended Boulogne during the evacuation and also took part in tho defence of Dunkirk.
GERMAN ARMY MISSION SUSPENSION BY ARGENTINA (Received July 3, 5.35 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, July 2 The services of the German Army Mission, which has been attached to the Argentine Army College since before the world war of 1914-18, have been suspended. RISE IN NOTE ISSUE AUSTRALIA'S WAR EFFORT (Received July 3, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 3 The Commonwealth Bank's weekly return reveals that the Australian note issue has increased in the past six weeks by over £9,000,000, due largely to the accelerated war effort. The total notes in circulation at present are £61,619,444.
