CHILD REFUGEES

HOMES FOR 1C53 OFFERED LIST TEMPORARILY CLOSED Offers to provide homes for a total of 1053 refugee children had been received at the Town Hall up to' yesterday afternoon, when the register was temporarily closed. The offers; which had been made in the course of about two weeks, comprised 787 from the Auckland metropolitan area ana 266 from outer districts, mainly within the Auckland Province. That the movement is still making progress is shown by-the fact that 106 offers were received yesterday, 73 being from the metropolitan area and 33. from elsewhere. A meeting of the committee will be held this morning, Ao consider the progress made, and it is probable that tho register will shortly be reopened.
