WRONG MOUNT TAKEN
.INDIGNITY TO RACEHORSE* JOURNEY IN TRUCK TO CAMP [by telegraph—own correspondent] HAWERA, Tuesday One of Hawera's best-known racehorses, Student Prince, suffered the indignity this morning of being herded into an open cattle truck with five other horses of less exalted lineage and entrained for the Mount Rifles regimental camp at the Waverley racecourse. A member of a Hawera platoon leaving for camp had been told by a Hawera citizen that he would secure a horse for his use to bo entrained with the others, instructions being given that the animal was to be secured by halter from a paddock in Vogel Street and taken to the station. Student Piiince duly arrived at the Hawera station and travelled in lowly state to Waverley. M eanwhile, Mr. J. Brown, his ownertrainer. had discovered Student Prince's disappearance and in the subsequent search every street and road in the vicinity was covered, a trip being made even as far afield as Eltham, 12 miles away. Someone thought of making inquiries from neighbours and from one little girl the fact was gleaned that a man in military uniform had taken Student Prince away; ,
A horse float was sent from Hawera early in the afternoon to bring back Student Prince, the vehicle on its down journey being used to convey the mount intended for camp use.
