LIQUOR FOR MAORIS
SUPPLIER FINED £ls [by TKLEGIIAI'ri —own correspondent] KAITAIA, Tuesday A fine of £ls was imposed by Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., on Lloyd Richard Faithfull for supplying liquor to Maoris off licensed premises and within a proclaimed area. Accused said he did not know it was an offence to hold a party in a private house, although ho knew' the regulation concerning public places. He had been quite frank about the matter when interviewed. All lie had wanted to do was to "shout" for some of his workmates who had beon "down on their luck."
The magistrate commented on the amount of trouble there had been in the Far North from the supplying of liquor to Maoris. The Court was bound to punish such offences to the full. Eight M.aoris concerned wore fined £3 each.
