TAXICAB SERVICES
APPLICATION TO AUTHORITY Lengthy evidence and cross-examina-tion on an adjourned application from Mr. A. C. Ogilvie for amendments to his taxicab service licence occupied the Auckland Transport Board, acting as the Municipal Licensing Authority, from 10 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. yesterday, when the hearing was again adjourned. Mr. Ogilvie asked that all taxi licensees should become members of the Auckland Taxi-Owners' Association, that this body should control the only taxi telephone system in Auckland, and that fares should be increased. Mr. I. J. Goldstine, appearing for the Auckland Taxi-Owners' Association, stated that although Mr. Ogilvie was secretary of the organisation, he was making his application as an individual. The association supported the first two items of the application, but was opposed to an increase in fares. It suggested, however, _ that the authority should give consideration to the question of reverting to the 1935 boundaries. Dr. R. G. McElroy, for the. Auckland Transport Association, and Mr. A. Sinclair, representing the Checker Taxi Society, opposed the application. After evidence had been given by Mr. A. E. Parker, chairman of tho management committee of the latter society, tho hearing was adjourned until next Monday.
