TWO MEN CHARGED
COMMITTED FOR TRIAL A charge of robbery of £6 10s with personal violence from Desmond Pavisli was jointly preferred against a fireman, Patrick Francis Bronnan, aged 28 (Mr. Aekins) and a labourer, Raymond Trevor Child, aged 31 (Mr. G. Skolton) in tho Police Court before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., yesterday. Brennan was nlso charged with assaulting Frank Shine. Desmond Pavisli said he returned to his room. in. a boarding-house in Nelson Street with Sliino on the evening of April 5 and found four men thero. Ho knew two and he later found the others to be Child and Brennan. After tlioy had had some beer the four men left, but Child and Brennan returned and became abusive*, Child stating ho was a boxer. Brennan hit Shine and then put a strangle-hokl on Pavish's neck while Child" took £6 10s from his pockets. Brennan then struck him a blow behind tho ear. Both accused pleaded not guilty and wero committed to the Supremo Court for trial, bail of £l5O being allowed in each case.' Brennan was also charged with stealing a post ofiieo savings bank book, valued at Is, a pension certificate and a workers' union ticket from William Robert Smith on April 5. On this charge accused also pleaded not guilty and was conlmitted to tho Supremo Court for'trial. A charge of being found unlawfully on the Avondale racecourse during a mooting on A[)ril 3 was preferred against Child, who pleaded guilty, 110 was fined £3 and costs. •
