ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP LADIES' AUTUMN FOURSOMES PLAY COMMENCING TO-DAY The annual ladies' autumn foursomes golf championship of New Zealand will be commenced on the Maungakiekie club's links. One Tree Hill, this morning. An entry of G-l has been received, but. as it is a straight-out handicap match-play competition, the field will be reduced to 1(3 pairs after the decision of the second round this afternoon. These Hi will have been further reduced to four by to-morrow afternoon, leaving only the semi-finals and final to be played 011 Thursday. Those who are eliminated in the first round this morning will take part in a flight handicap in the afternoon. Consolation bogey foursomes will be played to-morrow and consolation medal foursomes on Thursday for the players who are gradually eliminated from the match-play event. The present holders of the title are Miss E. White-Parsons, Chrislchnrch. and Mrs. It. C. 'I". Lewis, Mult. They are not defending the championship. GUY CHALLENGES MURRAY ASSISTING PATRIOTIC FUNDS A coif challenge match will be played on the Remucra Club's links next Sunday week under the auspices of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, between Gunner A. E. Guy, Sixth Field Regiment. Xgaruawahia camp, and A. Murray. New Zealand professional champion. Guy has challenged Murray to a match over :s<i holes, and the first round will start at 10 a.m. and the second at p.m. Guy. who has been prominent in the New Zealand open championship Tor the past few years, is regarded as the longest hitter in the Dominion. Australia, finished with a round of 71 to make his total 'JOO. Critics consider that he is liable to cause an upset at any tournament when in his best form. He wiil continue his tour and play at Chicago. Detroit and the Metropolitan Open at Grand Rapids, New York, on May 21. Mangrtim finished second with 281 (third round "•!) and B. Nelson third, 255 (third round 70).
