ARTILLERY FIRE
WEST SAAR REGION SEVERAL AIR FIGHTS MINOR FRENCH REVERSES / By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright ' LONDON', April 1 A' French official communique states: "Artillery fire was particularly heavy to-day in the region immediately to the west of the Saar. Both air forces have been very active and several fights took place, the results/of which arc not yet; known. All, our machines returned safely to their bases. "In the course of the engagements of March 31 one of our fighter patrols came up against much superior enemy forces. Two of our single seaters were .brought down. "One of our pilots saved himself by means of his parachute. The other aeroplanes returned to their bases." A Paris commentator says the enemy in the .lilies sector attacked a post and captured- live wounded Frenchmen. The Air .Ministry states that Royal Air Force machines flew over Germany last night.'. All returned undamaged. The German news agency reports: "Enemy aeroplanes Hew over Western Germany hist night and one British machine, was damaged by anti-aircraft fire over Oldenburg and is believed to have landed on the coast." •A message from Brussels says antiaircraft guns fired on one British and one German aeroplane at a great height over Brussels.
