CITIZEN'S DEATH
MR. J. H. DALTON BUSINESS INTERESTS OLD RESIDENT OF AUCKLAND' The death of Mr. John Howard Dalton, aged 82, occurred yesterday morning at his residence at Rewi Road, Epsom. Mr. Dnlton was well known in Auckland for many years, as head of the Queen Street tailoring firm which bore his name and until six months ago was actively engaged in his business of J. H. Dalton and Company, Limited, wholesale warehousemen. Boni in London, Mr. Dalton came to New Zealand at the age of six in the ship King of Italy and had lived in Auckland since. He began work for the Post and Telegraph Department at the age of 11, but after experience with n tailoring firm opened his own business years ago.
Mr. Dalton gave up the retail business about 20 years ago, but maintained a wholesale concern in association with the Napier Woollen Mills, of which he was a director. He was also a director of other companies. In his younger days Mr. Dalton was a prominent runner and won the Auckland quarter-mile championship in record time. He was always interested in sport and was a life member of the Pakuranga Hunt Club. Mr. Dalton married Miss C. McSkimming, of Auckland, and they celebrated their golden wedding four years ago. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters. There are 11 grandchildren.
