HASTINGS HORSES

AWAPUNI CANDIDATES SUPPORT FOR HACK RACES PROCLAMATION AND NELUMBO [I!Y TELKGIIAI'Il —OWN COHU KSVONDF-NT] HASTINGS, Monday About 20 horses from this training centre will bo racing at Awapuni this week, tho team including Indian Sun, Tidal Lass, Proclamation, Black Majesty, Nolumbo, The King, Lady Furst, Hui, Jvliurjn, Black Out, Areas, Itakahanga, Authoress, Mother-in-Law, Charles lid ward, Lindrum and Dainty Dell. The last-named two aro not engaged on the opening day, but all going well they will bo produced on Saturday. Indian Sun, by running second and third at Riccarton, showed an improvement on past showings, hut the company opposed to him in Canterbury was not very strong, hut neither is the class he has to contend with on Thursday. Tidal Lass ran a fair third at Waipukurau on Easter .Monday to Proclamation and Malacca, so that on Thursday, with W. J. Mudford in the saddle, she looks to bo a possibility in the Autumn Plate. Hack Sprinters Proclamation has his full share of weight with 0.3 in the Woodhey Handicap, but in his present form he should be dangerous. An easy track would enhance his ciiancoe. ■Black Majesty was second at Taiiherenikau over five furlongs, hut if the track is hard his chances will not bo so bright. Nelunibo, on 9.0, does not appear to bo heavily burdened, in view of her two runaway victories at Waipukurau. Should her weight bo reduced by a 71b. apprentice's allowance, this Hunting Song mare should be hard to beat in the Woodhey Handicap. Hui won solidly over seven furlongs at Taiiherenikau with 8.12, so that with a drop of 211), the Greenmendows-trained filly reads well in that race. Altogether, Hawke's Bay is strongly represented with Proclamation, Neliimbo, Black Majesty and Hui. Lady Furst's Claim Lady Furst, awarded 9.2, has gono up 41b. for Ijer win in the Easter Handicap at Taiiherenikau, but as sho will probably bo claiming a 71b. apprentice allowance sho may bo in demand in the King George Memorial Handicap. The Ring, who is also engaged in this event, is in good racing condition. Khurja was second in tho Russlcy Handicap at Riccarton and, although ho disappoints) on the next day, ho should enter calculations on Thursday. Rakahanga's second to Spanish Lad ovor the seven furlongs of the' Temploton Handicap brings her into prominence for tho J. M. Johnston Handicap, in which sho is now top-weight. Strong Team at Nine Furlongs Hawke's Bay holds a strong hand in the Te Matai Handicap, nine furlongs, with Areas, Charles Edward, Authoress and Mothcr-in-Law, all of whom aro in fine shape. Arras won well in his only start at Riccarton, to run the Autumn - Plate, one mile, in 1.38, so' that over another furlong, the improving three-year-old should have a following. Charles Edward is racing impressively but without luck.- Last month at Trentham he ran a dead-heat with Areas. On her gallop with Lindrum last Saturday Authoress has a chance above the average.

Lindrum has been successful in his last three starts and Dainty Dell gained a first and a second at the Wairarapa meePng.
