LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

PROVINCIAL MEETING SCOPE OF PATRIOTIC WORK The quarterly meeting of the League of Mothers of the Auckland Province was hold in the Y.W.C.A. yesterday morning. The provincial president, Mrs. Harvey Turner, presided over a large attendance of members. Inference to the great work to be done by the League of Mothers was referred to by Mrs. Turner in her opening address. A letter was read from Mrs S. O. English, the newlv-elected Dominion president of the league, in reply to a congratulatory letter sent to her by the league members. A brief account of a reeent visit by Mrs. lurner and Mrs. W. C. Utting, the provincial secretary, to the Broad wood and Kawene branches, was given by Mrs. Utting. A visit would be paid early next month, Mrs. Utting said, to the Gisborne and Whakatane branches. Later it was hoped to visit all branches of the league in celebration of Centennial year. This suggestion was warmly approved at the meeting. With reference to patriotic activities 011 the part of the league, the president asked each member to do what she eould individually in connection with the entertainment of and hospitality for the soldiers. It was decided to get in touch with Canon R. G. Coats immediately to offer to take the responsibilitv for the catering for soldiers at the St. Matthew's Welcome Club on four Saturday evenings this year. In making this announcement Mrs. Turner said she felt the support of the Welcome Club by the members was one which had a' special appeal to every mother in the league. At the close of the meeting wool for the knitting of balaclava caps was distributed to the members. It was announced that Mrs, Turner and Mrs. Utting would lay a wreath on tlio Cenotaph on Anzac Day on behalf of tho league members.
