//, AMERICAN GANG CHARGED OFFICIALS INVOLVED NEW YORK, March 10 A former sheriff, a deputy-sheriff, a State policeman, and a game warden have been arrested on charges oi hav-' ing helped a bootleg liquor gang. It is alleged that they each accepted "hush-money" ranging up to £64 a week. Forty-four men, alleged to be mem bers of the gang, have been charged with having defrauded the Federal Government of £315.000 alcohol taxes. The gang operated in upper New York State. It operated 17 illicit stills. Between 1934 and 1936 these turned out at least L' 65,500 gallons of overproof spirit.
