WELLINGTON PIANIST

SCHOLARSHIP WINNER News that she is the winner of the 1939 scholarship for pianoforte offered by the Royal College of Music, London, has been received by Miss Dorothy Downing, Tinakori Road. Wellington. The scholarship entitles the winner to two years' free tuition at the college in London but, because of the war and the danger of sea travel, scholarship winners do not: have to take immediate advantage of them, but may postpone the tutorial period until after the war. Miss Downing's scholarship was recommended by Dr. J. F. Staton. In the grade VIIL examination she achieved distinction, a silver medal and free entry for licentiate, and in the grade V. examination she gained distinction in harmony.
