TAKANAKL CIRCUIT FIVE WINS FOR BERKETT MONGOLIAN MAKES RECORD BY ABAYDOS The Nelson trainer L. F. Borkctt added to his long record of successes at trotting meetings in Tarnnnki when five of the six horses he started at Now Plymouth and Hawera ■won. 'lhe successful candidates were Native Worry, Kosha, Gold Cue, Warship and Mongolian. The other representative, Expensive Lady, secured a third, to bring the earnings of the team to £BSO. Mongolian, who won the Farewell Handicap at Xfw Plymouth and was second in both the llawera Trotting Cup and Waimate Plains Handicap, was the chief contributor, with ,C'-'!i(). Since his dual success at the Auckland Spring Meeting. Mongolian has raced most consistently, and his latest effort, in running 1.22 for two miles at Hnwera, to lower Ihe track record of Bonny Azure, who went '1.20 2-5 in I»3<>, in the same race, the Waimate Plains Handicap, demonstrates that Mongolian is a high-class stayer. Berkett won the Hawera Clip in 1035 with Plain Pearl. Warship, who failed on her two visits to Auckland, secured .CIUO for a first and third, and in recording 3.21 !-•"• displayed fine speed. The novice Kosha, after two minor placings at New Plymouth, won at Hawera, in the smart time of 3.25, off 3.43, his earnings being jEL">O. The little-raced Gold Cue registered a first arid third at New Plymouth. The aged frolter Native Worry secured £I ir>. He was second in the Waitara Handicap nt New, Plymouth, failing to concede Axwortiiv Star is yards start, birt at Hawera he won the Motapu Handicap from !)(> yards behind, to run 3.28 Off 3. It. , , Three of Berkett's horses, Mongolian, Gold Cue and Warship are from Logan Pointer mares, the respective sires being (rrattnn Loyal, Hey de Oro and Man o' War Ihe trotters N'ative Worry and Expensive Lady are by Native King. Why Worry, dam of Native Worry, was got by Wildwood Junior from Moneys. Lady Xan, dam of .Expensive Lady, was. a high-class trotter. She is by Peterela from a Mauritius mare. Expensive Lady, who lias not done a'great deal of racing, was bred by Mr. J. A. Mitchell, of Longburn, from whom she was recently purchased by a patron of Berkett s stable lor i '~Kosha is a three-year-old gelding by Red Shadow from Kotiro, who was only a moderate. She is by King Edward, by Lynbrook from Norbell. an imported American inare, with a double strain, of Hambletonian blood. Kotiro's dam was a Sou'wester mare. REMOVAL OF BAN RIPLEY RACING AGAIN EYE TROUBLE OVERCOME Ripley, who had bis first race in New Zealand at Riccarton on Monday, is a five-year-old gelding, registered as being by either Bonnemont or Rivoli, but foaled to Bonnemont's time. The dam Lero was by Cyklon from Lesbos, by The Welkin. As a two-year-old in eight starts Ripley ran third in a mile novice event nt Victoria Park, and had a similar placing at Rosehill. As a three-year-old in nine starts be won a mile maiden event at Warwick Farm and another mile event at Ramlwick. On the same course last Easter, he ran second in the City Handicap, one mile and a-half. and third lo Feminist and Will Rogers in the Langar Handicap, one mile and three furlongs. This season he ran unplaced in three starts, and owing to defective sight in one eye was banned from racing in Australia. Brought to New Zealand by F. Roberts, be was under the same ban till a veterinary certificate that the trouble bad been overcome was recently forthcoming. Ripley is a fine stamp of a horse, and his progress will bo watched with interest.
