TRIUMPH OF AJAX

THE ALL-AGED PLATE CHAMPAGNE STAKES TO JOHN | MAIKAI DEFEATS ROYAL CHIEF (Received March '-'7, 7 p.m.). SYDXEY, March 27 The third day of the Australian .Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting was held at Rnndwiek to-day in very hot weather. Ajax gained a further triumph over High Caste in the All-Aged Plate which the Victorian champion won on his merits, aftor leading all the way. Beaulivre hung on well, but he was not quite equal to beating High "Caste for second money. Ajax has now won the All-Aged Plate three years in succession, but to-day's time was seconds slower than that on the former occasions. High Caste presented a ragged picture, his tail having been almost stripped of hair in the trip from Melbourne. Reading sot a merry pace to near the home turn in the Cumberland Plate, when Maikai and Royal Chief overhauled him and left him almost standing. Maikai won in the best style to the accompaniment of cheers. Royal Chief is improving with every race.
