PUTAEUKU MEETING WOOD-CHOPPING EVENTS DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS [BV TELKGHAPH —OWN COItBKSPONDEXT] PUTARURU, Wednesday The second animal carnival conducted by "lie Putaruru Axeman's Club attracted a large number of entries, both in the chopping and athletic events. The prizc-mouev of £OO, allotted to the Putaruru 14-inch open chop, was the largest allotted to an event of this kind in New Zealand. After the final of the Arohcna C'hop, won by J. 11. Dowling, the- second competitor, A. L. Olliver. entered a protest. It was stated that the Rotorua Club was still investigating a protest against Dowling .it a previous meeting, and that this club was. withholding his prize-money.
