Money could also be earmarked for special purposes. Accounts were , being carefully kept and the board knew where all the money went. The reason it was being paid into a central board was mainly for* the purposes of book-keep-ing. In regard to sending money overseas, l/ird Ga I way said arrangements bad been made by the Government with the Reserve Mank to facilitate transfers that in the board's opinion were required for recreation huts, camp comforts and other amenities for troops in the field. I,ord Galway also pointed out that the appointment of the hoard was a means to eliminate wastage and overlapping and spread the burden, which undoubtedly should fall on all as equitably as possible. The bonrd was also controlling the question of national appeals, so that they were launched in proper sequence for particular purposes and not, too quickly one after another. Lord Galway said we were all in the war effort together, ourselves and the Allies, ami had got to do the utmost to see the thing through. The more strength put into it the quicker it would be over. He therefore confidently appealed: "Do your utmost to see that the-raising of the funds requisite for national purposes is carried into effect."

THE NATIONAL FUND TOTAL REACHES £62,016 The .National Patriotic Fund, which was founded for the benefit of the armed forces and other patriotic purposes. has now reached a total of £62.616. This is an increase of £25.322 on the figure at March 23. but the additional amount is largely explained by (lie inclusion of the first instalment. £25,000. of money collected for the Fighting Services Welfare Appeal.
