FARCICAL CRICKET

MATCH IN QUEENSLAND OVER TAKES SEVEN MINUTES The Queensland Cricket Association has taken a serious view of ladies adopted by Don T.i Hon. captain of South Brisbane, in n match against Western Suburbs recently. I lie umpires have been asked lo report. At the meeting which made the decision Mr. li. J. Hartig-m, of the Board of Control, said: "1 was so disgusted that 1 left the match. I hope we shall not see cricket played like thai again.'* :)n the first day, when the pitch was very wet, South Brisbane made TO and 10 for six wickets, and Western Suburbs only 10. Mouth's second innings «as taken to I'J'J. That gave West 171 to get for an outright win, with IT'J minutes in which lo do so. The team failed b.v three tho last over, a maiden, taking seven minutes. It was a mos{ remarkable match. The common time-wasting practice of bowling off the wicket was supplemented by fieldsmen carrving the ball hack instead of throwing it. The farce was carried further by the wiekelkeeper (not Tallon) returning it over the bowlers' heads to he retrieved leisurely, by the captain stopping a howler in his run for a change of fielding positions, by the alteration of the field after a ball from which there had not been a score. Long-distance walks for some fieldsmen afler each over, and the calling for drinks al a quarter to six, although il was a day of moderate temperature, capped the pantomime. The Queensland Cricket Association is determined that there shall not lie a repel iI ion of such tactics. Tallon has been criticised severely by followers of the game, even in his own club, and has losl many friends. Ho was considered next in line for the Queensland captaincy. Ilis claims against those of Brown had been advocated recently, and there was some official support for it.
