NEW WORKSHOPS

HARBOUR BOARD SCHEME SUM OF £53,000 INVOLVED CONSTRUCTION COMMENCED Operations wore started yesterday by the Fletcher Construction Company, Limited, on new workshops for the Auckland Harbour Board. The contract price is in the vicinity of £53.000, and work is to be finished within 12 months. The new building will replace the present workshops opposite the old dock site. The Harbour Board has already demolished half the buildings, and pait of the new structure will be erected on the area now cleared. When this is completed it will he occupied and the remainder of the old workshops will be demolished to permit the construction of the new building over the whole of the site. The workshops will be of reinforced concrete supported on pile foundations. A portion will be two storeys, but the bulk will be single-storey only. Once operations are well under way it is anticipated that the job will absorb about -10 men.
