The going was soft,. On the grass, Silver Quex ((iilohrist) strode over live furlongs in 1.1 l-o, the last three in Ms. The full-sister to liound Up has disappointed in recent starts, hut may do better now the tracks are becoming easier. British Talent (Uoarn) was travelling comfortably throughout six furlongs in 1.21 3-5, running the last half-milo in sts. There is no doubling British Talent's ability and ho is duo for a win in novice company at any time. Kelly (Gilchrist) relished tho goiiiif by running six furlongs in 1,20 .1-5, tho last half-milo in 51s. Bronze Firo (Ileum) sprinted three turlongs comfortably in 30 4-ss. He has not been up long from a spell, which appears to have done him a lot of good.- Tristram Shandy (Gilchrist) completed the last thrco <,f six furlongs in 12 4-ss, hut was stopping over the concluding stages. Auburn Lad (Pitt) recorded the best figures of the morning by completing half a mile, in 50 4-ss, after running the first furlong in 12 2-ss. By Pink Coat from Jarretiere, Auburn Lad has shown up prominently in his races and would only require 'to stay on a little better to bp returned a. winner. Lady Acushla (Goulsbro) was doing better than Bronze Emerald (Hearn) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.5 .'5-5, the last three being run in 30 t-ss. Lady Acushla went in improved style, but Bronze Emerald failed lo handle the going. Water liound (Markwiek) sprinted smartly over three fiirlonjrs in :i7s. The promising JI nut ing. The Vermeer —Llanore gelding (Messervy) shaded Morning Mist (Hearn) at the finish of half a mile in 50 4-ss, a satisfactory effort for novices. Fearri) and Biddy flirl (Ryan) were on terms at the end of five furlongs in 1.1, the last half-mile occupying r>o !i-ss. As both were travelling well within themselves it was a pleasing performance, which indicated future prospects. Armacourt (Hearn) was always well clear of Elise (Dowrick) over seven furlongs in 1.35, running (he last half-mile in 51 3-ss. MILE BY BOBRIKOFF The hack events at the Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Ellerslie provided keen racing, and several of the runners are likely to graduate into much better class, j The outstanding performer was Tea Gong, a five-year-old by Tea Tray from Tambourine, by Luculiiis from Tact, dam of the useful gallopers Tactful and Exactly. A big raking type of gelding, Tea Gong carried his 0.0 to victory in the Eden Handicap in slashing style, running out the mile as if a further distance would not be much trouble to him.

Looking improved on Monday, Tea Gong was made a Rood favourite for I lie Nelson Handicap, in spite of his 0.10, but lie had to strike his colours to the speedy Llandaff, to whom lie was conceding 3011). Tea Gong again finished solidly, and only for .meeting with a little trouble at the turn might have won again Tea (long was troubled by unsoundness in the early stages of his career, but appears to have overcome the trouble completely, alter being patiently treated by W. J. Fergus. Tea (Jong is to make his appearance in open company on the second day at Avondale, and in bis present form is likely to more than hold his own. There has been no more speedier novice on tile tracks at EHerslie for some time than Llandaff, who caught backers unaware by staying on to wm the Xelson Handicap on Mondav. Llandaff showed, tip prominently 111 his only previous start in the Koyal Stakes at Ellc'rslie at Christmas, being one of the leaders to the turn, and the improvement he had made in the meantime enabled him to show improved stamina. Llandaff who is owned and trained by A. D I'otter who raced Kiltown with considerable success, is a neat thrce-.vear-old geldin- by the Kilbroney horse Cambria Park, who, incidentally, is a half-brother to Tambourine, divm of Tea Gong. - . Llandovery, dam of Llandaff, is l>.\ Mountain Knight from Lucien, by Lucullu> from Congress, by Hierarch. Ihe win ot Llandaff puts him out of hack company, but lie is eligible to run out his nominations at Woiululc, where it will take a particulars good galloper to beat him over six furlongs. Both Tea Gong and Llandaff are products of Mr. K. A. Price's Cambria lark otud at Panatoetoe. „ lir « For her size, Susan is a panic mare, and sin', iust went under to Tea Gong ami Hacpata' in the Kden Handicap, after having none the best of luck. A half-sis er to enzance and Kentucky, Susan is in her in beavv ground, and now that she has gained form should be worth following. Kaepata raced up to his recent consistent form, to beat all except 'lea Gong in the Eden Handicap. However, lie had every clmncc if he had been good enough. 'J lie Austra ianhred gelding is in very solid condition, which should stand him in good stead in future enThe three-year-old Hunlo, who was successful- at Te Aroiui, ran up to Ins best form <0 finish third in the Nelson was unlucky in being opposed l» two hai.ks of the calibre of Tea Gong and Llandaff.
