FISHING AT TAUPO
MANY HOLIDAY ANGLERS DISAPPOINTING RESULTS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAUPO, TuesdayFishing in the Taupo" district at Ecister was patchy and many anglers were disappointed. There was a large number of rods in the district, but river fishing was generally slow from the Waitahanui to the Tongariro, although the fish taken were in excellent condition. Anglers who fished the mouth of the Waitahanui found sport below their expectations. Nothing approaching a limit catch was secured, the best catches, in the evenings, being four or five fish. Some fine rainbow trout, up to 81b. in weight, were taken from the Waitahanui, but many anglers took only one or two fish in four days' fishing. The large number of rods on the river did nothing to improve results. Reports indicated that the Waikato River, below the Huka Falls, fished fairly well on the evening rise.
