MANY NEW TELEPHONES

There are now over 168,400 telephonos in use in the Dominion. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones, stated this week that in spite of the retarding influence of the war, the telephone system in New Zealand continues to expand at a gratifying rate. During the month of February there were nearly 1400 new connections, and after allowing for the normal number of relinquishments the total number of subscribers was raised to over 168,400. This is a record total and represents a net_ increase of over 7SJOO connections during the 11 months of the current financial year. j
