MORE RECRUITS
(WEEK'S TOTAL 211 | .SHORTAGE STILL EXISTS NORTHERN DISTRICT FIGURES Recruiting was not- affected last week by the Easter holidays, and 211 young men in the northern military district registered for the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. This compares with 203 for the previous week and brings the district's total since recruiting was started to 1f).877. the highest in New Zealand. As a result of the fresh enlistments and of further medical examinations, the district now has 1726 officers and men available for the third echelon and for any extra second echelon requirements. The number of men, apart from officers, is 1607, of whom 1245 are single. This leaves another 500 or 600 to be found to fill the district's quota, recently raised by about 500 as the result of second echelon wastage and tho formation of additional units. Some of the shortage will be supplied by men who have not yet been examined, but the need still exists for continued steady recruiting.
