PARISH FAREWELL

ARCHBISHOP AVERILL ST. MARY'S GATHERING Parishioners of tlie Cathedral parish of St. Mary's gathered Inst night in the Sunday school liall io hid official farewell to Archbishop and Mrs. Averill. Archbishop Avcrill retires on Sunday from the offices of Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand and of Bishop of Auckland. A large number of parishioners were welcomed by Dean and Mrs. W. Faneourt. Tributes to Archbishop Averill's work and influence upon clergy and laity, and to the help given him by Mrs. Averill. were paid by .Dean Faneourt, as vicar,, by .Mr. L. S. Flicker by, parishioners' warden, representing the St. Mary's parishioners, and by Mr. J. L. Scoullar, representing the laity of the diocese. In his reply, the archbishop thanked the parish for their constant kindness to him, and paid a special tribute to the loyalty of Archdeacon G. MacMurray. He said that he never wished to go beyond Auckland and New Zealand for his retirement. Later, several concert items were given by Misses B. Brown, E. do Marr and Davidson, and by Mr. W. Sutcliffe. Mr. E. Randall was accompanist. Before the speeches, a bouquet was presented to Mrs. Averill by Barbara Newton.
