ELLERSLIE WORK
SPRINT BY MINTLAW
GOLDEN BONNET PLEASES RIGHT ROYAL JUMPS WELL BY BOBRIKOFF A fast half-mile by Mintlaw was a feature of tho training at Ellerslie yesterday. Odtaa performed impressively over a mile, while Royal Abb and Right Royal were responsible for splendid exhibitions of jumping. The course proper, with the poles out 55ft., was open lor galloping, the going being excellent. On the grass, Sigurd (R. Fearn) and Royal Appellant (Buchanan) were associated over seven furlongs in 1.35 :l-5. They ran the first half-mile in 535, and were travelling comfortably at the conclusion. Valmint (Mcsservy) beat Tea Gong (Ryan) over seven furlongs in 1.34 <l-5, running the first half-mile in 545. In, spite of his failure at Pukekohe. Valmint continues tD work in good stylo, and may be seen to better advantage when the tracks beconio easier. Glen Abb (R. Fearn) went a mile, finishing solidly over the last six furlongs in 1.20 12-5. Glen Abb looks in good order after his recent racing, and is likely to prove troublesome in tho Handicap Hurdles at Pneroa to-morrow. Alter running the first furlong in 13s, Mintlaw (Markwick) finished in great style to complete half a mile in 50 ]-ss, the best figures for the morning. Mintlaw gained many friends for the Ohinemuri Cup. It is doubtful if he has ever looked better. Commencing slowly, Hunter's Rose (Markwick) was not troubled to run five furlongs in 1.0 1-5. the last three in 39 3-ss. Hunter's Rose appears to be at the top of her form and will disappoint if she fails to race prominently to-morrow. Royal Message Fit Royal Message (l?Van) covered a round in 2.0, being assisted over the last six furlongs by Akanora (R. Fearn) in 1.20 3-5. Royal Message is very fit, but would have better prospects at Paeroa if the ground were easy. Akanora, who displayed plenty of speed in her first appearance at Pukekohe, pleased by the easy manner in which she accomplished her task. After running the first furlong in :13s. Golden Bonnet (Manson) got to the end of half a mile in 50 4-ss. She carried a good weight, and did her work pleasingly. Golden Bonnet's recent improvement indicates that she may prove troublesome in the Karangahake Handicap at Paeroa to-morrow. Odtaa (Gilchrist) was responsible for a really good effort in running a mile in 1.46, the last seven furlongs in 1.33. Judging by the dash he is putting into his work, Odtaa should be at the top of his form for Easter. Pasture (Cammick) was under restraint to cover half a mile in 51 l-ss. She appears to have made a good recovery from the mishap which prevented her from racing at New Plymouth, and will be seen out at Paeroa. Other gallops were:— Three Furlongs.—Vermeer—Llanore gelding (Mcsservy), 40s; Ballivor (Kerr), 445. Four Furlongs.—Silver Stick (Farrell), 50 3-ss; Auburn Lad (Pitt), received better of start, beat Sir Cameron (McGill). 51s: Morning Mist (R. Fearn) beat All Irish (Hoarn), 51 l-ss; Land Girl (Pitt), Brazilian (McGill) and Ivy Willonyx (Green), 52 4-ss; Kara Avis (Mcsservy). 53 2-ss; Miss Bridge (Cammick), Little Willonyx (Trernain) and Veyana, 53 3-ss; Maori Star (Cammick) and Master Warden (Gemmell), 513 4-ss; British Talent (Cammick), easily, 50 l-ss. Five Furlongs.—Happicoat (Mcsservy) and Mon Acre (Gilchrist), last three, 30 3-ss. Six Furlongs.—The Dude (Pell) and Bide-a-Wee (Kerr), 1.25 1-5. Seven Furlongs. Llandaff (Murray), easily, 1.35; Rajanya (Mcsservy), 1.30 2-5. Schooling of Jumpers
Knight of Australia (Ritchie) jumped four hurdles in careful style. In a similar task, Melvanui (Dowrick) cave a good exhibition, except for getting in too close to the last. Orient, Dawn (Coon) and Valspear (Ritchie) were associated over four hurdles. Orient Dawn giving an excellent d'SPlay. Loyal Grant (Gemmell) and Baldric (Walters) made no mistakes over the same fences, the latter finishing slightly in front. Rigfit' Royal (Neil) cleared right away from Agog (Ttirvey) in a bout, over six hurdles, finishing ten lengths in front, after giving, a fine exhibition of fast jumping. Commencing at the fence by the mile, post. Royal Abb (Ritchie), with tho assistance of Te Rongo (Williams) over the first six and Thrust (Neil) over the remaining four fences, gave a faultless display over a round of the steeplechase course. Royal Abb .lumped with greater confidence than on Tuesday, and is likely- to take beating in the McOuire Steeplechase to-morrow. Te Rongo also schooled well. Thrust shaped encouragingly for a comparative novice.
