AUSTRALIAN COLLIERS TOTAL/OF 25,000 IDLE SPREAD „TO OTHERS FEARED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received March 12, 1.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 11 Twenty-five thousand mine workers throughout Australia, including 17,000 in New South Wales, became idle to-day as the result of the coal strike, which officially began at midnight when enginedrivers and others engaged in maintenance tasks ceased work. It is feared that thousands of workers other industries will soon be out of work, as the result of the coal mines, stoppage. The strike has caused considerable concern in official and business circles and strong representations have been made to the Prime Minister to intervene to prevent, it spreading and dislocating industry and the war transport services. Mr. Menzies to-day promised to discuss the dispute with the Cabinet. In the meanwhile the miners' officials are continuing their organisation for a. protracted struggle, in co-operation with other unions.
