CITIZEN'S DEATH

MR. G. C. W. MORRIS PROMINENT ACCOUNTANT PARTNER IN AUCKLAND FIRM The death of Mr. George Charles Waudby Morris, senior partner in the Auckland accountancy firm of Morris, Duncan and Gvllies, has occurred at his residence at Park Road, Titirangi. Born at Plymouth, England, MrMorris came to New Zealand as a boy. The family lived at Tauranga, where he was educated. Mr. Morm entered the employ of the Bank of New Zealand and served in several branches before joining bis father, the Hon. Captain G. B. Morris, M.L.C., as a sharebroker in Auckland. Mr. Morris subsequently went into partnership with the late Mr. W. P. Holmes as a public accountant., and on Mr. Holmes' retirement he formed with Mr. J. A. Duncan and Mr. A. H. Gyllies the present firm of Morris, Duncan and Gyllies, acquiring the practice of the late Mr. W. B. .EL Morrison. His son, Mr. G. N. G. Morris, later entered the partnership. The firm has for many years been auditor for Wilson and Horton, Limited.

A member of the Northern and Auckland Clubs, Mr. Morris served on the committee of the Auckland Club. Projects with which he was closely associated were the administration of the 1913-14 Exhibition and the collection of funds for the Sir John Logan Campbell statue at Cornwall Park. He was secretary of the Epsom School Committee for some years. At one time a prominent member of the Maungakiekie Golf Club, Mr. Morris was club captain in 1915, and was associated with the proposals for the formation of the Titirangi course. He was later a member of the Auckland Golf Club. In his younger days he was a keen footballer and played for the Tauranga representative team. He played cricket for the old Gordon Club in Auckland. Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
