TEMPORARY POST
ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF (Received March 10. 11.45 p.m.) MKLBOURNK. March 10 Lieutenant-General Sir Brudenell "White, who retired from the active list in 192:1 and has been recalled and appointed Chicl ol General Staff, in succession to the late Lieutenant-General Squires, held this post with distinction from 1920 to 192:3. Referring to the appointment to-day the Minister of the Army, Mr. Street, said that Lieutenant-General White was a most distinguished staff officer of the original Australian Imperial Force. The appointment was not permanent. Lieutenant-General White said: "1 am only filling a gap. I am only rejoining the active list while I am needed." Since 1928 Lieutenant-General White has been chairman ol the local hoard ol the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. The board has given him leave while the Government requires his services.
