LORD ACE SUCCEEDS lornacre annexes sprint ENJOYMENT AND CLIPPER WIN [BY TELEGRAPH —FROM ABAYDOS] TAUR AXGA, Saturday The improving Lord Aee, who was better supported on. the place than on the win machine, won the Trial Plate with a strong finishing effort, being kept up to his work over the last furlong by Commemoration, who made a determined final challenge.

Hlriwaf, who received the best of the start from No. 1 position, attempted to win front end to end, but weakened into third. Ririwai had a lead of four lengths at tho top, but Flying Eagle, Misora, Lord Ace, Commemoration and African had reduced the gap considerably on reaching tho home turn. Kiriwai was under pressure a fnrlong from the judge, whore Lord Aco assumed command to hold off Commemoration. Flying Eagle ran on better than usually for fourth, followed by African, Whcnua and Radiant Boy. Tho winner paid a surprisingly good win dividend

A Stirring Finish A stirring finish in tho Jack Tanner Memorial Handicap saw the each-way favourito Paymaster just heat Snrpai and Cillas, who dead-heated for second. Paymaster began .smartly and was attended into the straight l>y Aberdovey, with Suriwl right in behind them and Cillas last. Snrpai got a run between Paymaster and Aberdovey to tic In front with u furlong to go, but Paymaster made a determined challenge to again reach the lead and win by a short head. Cillas, who finished very fast, caught Snrpai on the post. Aberdovey was a good fourth, with Dorset and (Jay Widow several lengths away next. Radiant Vaals, second fancy each way, fell at tlie end of two furlongs. He was running prominently at the time. Always well placed and patiently ridden by O. Mclnally, Enjoyment came • away over the final stages of the (Jotc Pa Hurdles to scoro decisively from General Ruse, who made up a good (leal of ground in the last six furlongs. Haile Boy, who was in a good position throughput, was a fair third. .Midland made play from the start, and along the back was six lengths clear of Mai do Mnr, who was a similar distance in -advanco of Haile Boy and Enjoyment, who went up quickly to bo handy to Midland at tho turn, wliero Chikara was improving his pdsition from well back. Enjoyment took chargo at the distance to win well from General Ruse, who outstayed Haile Boy for second. Chikara finished solidly for fourth and was followed by Midland, who faded in tho straight. King Musk, the win favourite, never flattered the hopes of his supporters.

A Narrow Victory With more than half the field racing practically in line for the judge, the Tauranga Cup. provided tho best, finish witnessed on tho Gate Pa racecourse, honours finally resting with the each-way favourite Gold Vaals, whose determined challenge gave him a neck victory over Pocket Venus. The success of Gold Vaals is a good illustration of the theory "Horses for courses," as he has sevwins to his credit at Tauranga. \ery Glad and Tho Dozer were quickly in the \an, with Oold Vaals, To Hai and Gainos just behind. Raepata went up smartly along: the back and drew almost level with tho leaders. The Dozer, Very Glad and To Hai. Raepata led into tho straight, where tho field spread across tho course, Gamos. Gold Vaals, Raana. Pocket Venus and Kena all challenging. A great battle ensued. Gold Vaals just outstaying Pocket Venus, with Haana a head away third. The Dozer was right up fourth and then almost in lino came Gamos, Te Hai. Kena and Very Glad. The winner was ridden splendidly by X. R. McKenzie.

The each-way favourite Merry Vaals scored an easy win in the Alf. Brown Memorial Handicap. After shaking off Gold Petal, who accompanied him to the straight entrance. Mcrr.v Vaals cave nothing a chance and won r>.v four lengths. Spearford was smartest to begin, but Merry Vaals and Gold Petal soon displaced him and Star Vaat ran up handy ahead Estro, who lost her position, and Biddy Girl. Approaching the straight, Gold Petal retired and Biddy Girl went up second, hut could make no impression on Merry Vaals. ■ Estro made a fine finishing effort to be a neck away third. Star Vail I was fourth, followed by Gnzeful and Spearford. who dropped back after being prominent for three furlongs. in' : « twtf-divldcnd -fIcRF for the Greerton High-Weight Hack Handicap, Silver Cloud was a firm favourite each way choice and she realised expectations by winning nicely from Xorse and Mendelssohn, who fought out a hard battle for second. Owing to one side of the barrier failing to function. Advance Acre and Foxtoon lost several lengths and Bronze Spear was badly left. Silver Cloud began best, but Xorse Lady soon ran up to lead to the turn, where Silver Cloud was handy, with Mendelssohn and Foxtoon improving their positions. Once straightened up Silver Cloud took charge to win easily. Xorse Lady battled on solidly for second and Mendelssohn, finishing on, was third. Foxtoon was a good fourth, followed by Mio Fratollo and Advance Acre.,

It was with a good effort that Lornacro won the Flying Handicap. Silver Easrle was quickest to beirin, hut was soon headed by Te Kawiti, Lornacre and Sir Robin. Receiving a check a little further on. Silver Eagle went right back at the turn, where Black Thread and N'oitaro became prominent and Foxsen began a run from well back. Lornacre was in charge entering the straight and afterward (rave nothing a chance, winning decisively from Te Kawiti, who held off the fast-finishinsr Foxson. Noitaro was a closo fourth, followed by Black Thread, Penzance and Foxmond. Silver Eagle came round the field at the turn, but could not finish on after his effort in recovering a lot of lost ground. , Ridden bv the apprentice W. Coughey with an allowance of 71b, the win favourite Clipper prevailed in the Presidents Hack Handicap after a hard finish. Mercury Bay, Orally and Kenneth Robert earned on the running to the turn, where Clipper was in behind and Acreman, well hack early, was showing up. Clipper joined Mercury Bay and Orallv at the distance and won from Mercury Bay, who beat, Orally by a snort head Acremnn was fourth, followed by Greek Queen and Kenneth Robert. Acreman lost ground at the start through swerving and also checked Creek Queen and Susan, .who received the worst of it.
