FIREMEN'S CONTESTS
CENTENNIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS [BY TELEGKATH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday Two hundred firemen from 51 brigades are taking part in the national Centennial demonstrations of the United Fire Brigades' Association, which began to-day at the Petone recreation ground. Entries for the events are the highest since the demonstrations at Hokitika in 1929. , , N. G. Muir (Hastings) broke the New Zealand record for the one-man coupling, for which the Gilberd Memorial Sfiield is awarded. Muir completed the test in 49 3-os, two-fifths of a second better than the previous time established at Wanganui last year. Results: — . Gilberd Memorial (one-man coupling). — Hastings (N.G..
