CATHOLIC WOMEN

CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES An address on " Democracy " by Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, reports on league circles' work and a brief address by the president, Mrs. M. Pilling, were the main items of the first "At Home" for the year held by the Catholic Women's League on Tuesday night. Mrs. Pilling spoke of the many spheres of usefulness open to members at the present time and referred particularly to the Catholic Service Guild and its work for those serving in the war. Mrs. P. J. Delaney reported on the work of the Carmelite Circle, Mrs. 10. Bell on the patriotic work and Mi.ss V. A. Walshe, secretary, on the work of the league generally. The charitable and welfare work of the league, Christmas distributions, donations to the Red Cross for its Finnish appeal, distribution of books to the Catholic hut at Papakwra military camp, and the nursing class at present receiving instructions from the Red Cross teachers at the league rooms, were among the activities mentioned.
